Other Places Called Morecambe

Morecambe, Alberta

You might think there are multiple places called Morecambe globally. Surprisingly, there is only one other location in the world called Morecambe. It is a small hamlet in central Alberta in the County of Two Hill No. 21. It is nothing like Morecambe in Lancashire, as it is inland and has a tiny population of less than 30 people. The hamlet is just off Highway 45 and approximately 65 miles northwest of Lloydminster, a city straddling Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Lloydminster has an unusual history. Barr Colonists from the United Kingdom founded the settlement in 1903. Originally, it was intended that the settlement would be an area for people to live in sobriety. The town underwent rapid development over the next decade. Now, the city covers more than 16 square miles and has a population of almost 32,000 people.
